How International Shipping Works

Pacer Logistics brings international courier options into the same quote and booking tool you'd use for a parcel within Australia. Here's how it works.

1

Get an International Quote

Choose International in the quote tool, then enter the pickup address, the destination and your shipment's quantity, packaging, weight and dimensions.

2

Compare Your Options

See the international services, prices and estimated transit times for your destination side by side, and choose the one that suits your budget and timing.

3

Describe and Value Your Goods

International shipments need a clear description of what's inside and its value, so customs in the destination country can assess them.

4

Book and Track

Book online, then follow your parcel overseas with live tracking that updates as soon as the courier scans it.

Customs, Duties and Restricted Items

Describe What's Inside

Describe your goods clearly and give their real value. Vague descriptions, like “gift” or “parts”, are a common reason for customs delays.

Duties and Taxes

Import duties and taxes are usually paid by the receiver when the shipment arrives. Business account holders can ask us to arrange sender-paid duties. Rules and thresholds are set by each country and can change, so check them for your destination before you send.

Restricted and Banned Items

You can't send explosives, fireworks, firearms, ammunition, illegal drugs, radioactive materials, unregistered hazardous chemicals or, by air freight, perfume. The destination country may restrict other goods too. If your shipment contains any dangerous goods, tick the DG box when you quote.

Before You Ship Overseas

  • Measure and weigh the packed box, not just the item. Couriers can adjust the price if what they collect doesn't match what you declared.
  • Pack for a long journey: a strong box, cushioning on every side and no empty space.
  • Keep the invoice or receipt for what you're sending, in case customs or the courier asks for proof of value.

Our transit warranty and extra cover apply to shipments within Australia only, so international shipments aren't covered. See Shipment Cover for details.
